Advocacy
My mission is to help your child reach their goals by strengthening the home and school connection.
I will help your child reach their goals by supporting the family and the child. I want to bridge the gap between your family and the school through guidance and education. Often mistrust is due to an error in communication between the school and the family. I want to bring the school and family back together to help the team make decisions to best help the student reach their goals. We all want the student to be successful.
I start with a free consultation.
I will meet with the family to discuss concerns and goals for their child. If we decide to move forward the initial fee will be discussed.
Moving forward...
All relevant and important paperwork will be reviewed. This includes the most recent Reevaluation, IEP, progress reports, and report card grades. Other information may be helpful, such as the initial evaluation conducted when your child was first placed in Special Education. You can request the IEP paperwork from the school and email it or deliver it to Reach Advocacy and Instruction. My email is: ebarnes.teach@gmail.com
After the paperwork review...
I will meet to discuss IEP information and concerns. You will then be advised on how to move forward to best meet the needs of the child.
Then
If an ARD meeting is coming up and you would like for me to attend, I will prepare for the meeting by reviewing all paperwork with your concerns in mind. I would like the drafted paperwork no less than 5 days before the scheduled meeting. After reviewing the paperwork, we will have a pre-meeting to discuss possible outcomes and concerns. At this meeting, we will develop a plan based on your child’s data and proposed IEP paperwork. If we disagree with the drafted IEP, we will have proposals ready based on data.
Last
A post-meeting will be scheduled 2-3 days after the meeting. Here, a follow-up email will be developed to send to the ARD team addressing changes made to the IEP, concerns, and any follow-up requests that need to be made.
I will consider myself part of your team once we have been through this process together! I will be available for free IEP advice, questions, or concerns. Let me know how I can help!
